Outdoor Living Starts Here
Downtown Windsor boasts one of the finest waterfronts in any Canadian city. Our riverside parks offer a broad range of healthy, outdoor recreational activities, including biking, roller blading, festivals and cultural events, as well as an excellent location for picnicking and watching the annual fireworks display. Much of this lush greenbelt borders the north side of the downtown district, within easy walking distance of Downtown Windsor residential areas.
Dieppe Gardens
The Dieppe Gardens is a beautiful memorial park located north of the Avenue district, at the foot of Downtown Windsor’s main street, Ouellette Avenue. It is heavily planted with brilliantly coloured annuals and perennials, and features many monuments including those dedicated to the Canadian Army and Navy.
Odette Sculpture Park
The Odette Sculpture Park showcases more than 32 large-scale, internationally recognized works of contemporary sculpture, by world-renowned artists. This phenomenon is widely acclaimed as an outdoor museum without parallel.
Maiden Lane Chess Park
This quaint downtown Windsor outdoor space occupies the south side of Maiden Lane W. and joins the Avenue district with the West Village. It houses permanent chess tables, trees and a welcoming atmosphere in the middle of the downtown area. Maiden Lane is also home to the Maiden Lane Murals, a joint project of the DWBIA and the City of Windsor Art Studio, which includes 19 annotated historical renderings, depicting leisure activities in Downtown Windsor.
Chess sets available free of charge from the DWBIA office at 474 Ouellette Avenue.
Charles Clark Square
Charles Clark Square is at the heart of the downtown
district known as the Square. In the heart of Windsor’s civic centre, this Downtown Windsor facility features an
irregularly shaped skating rink, which transforms into a
seasonal plaza with terraced seating and a giant chess
board, during the summer months.
Charles Clark Square also boasts a seasonal café built-in
seating, a trellis-covered colonnade, umbrella covered
tables and decorative lighting. It is home to the DWBIA’s
Winter Celebration caroling concerts in November and
December, and the holiday season Festival of Lights.
